Our History

Since our founding in 1972 – and incorporation as the ECDO in 1981 – the James B. Moran Center for Youth Advocacy has been a champion for thousands of disinvested youth in need of an advocate. As the challenges and needs of our clients have evolved over time, so have our programs and services.

The Moran Center hosts a panel of Restorative Court Judges

The Roger Pascal Restorative Justice Initiative (RPRJI) hosted a special virtual panel of judges leading in the development of restorative courts in Cook County, including the Honorable Sophia H. Hall, Hon. Martha A. Mills, Hon. Sheila M. Murphy, and Hon. Patricia S. Pratt.

Executive Director & Youth Defense Attorney Patrick Keenan- Devlin spoke at TEDx Northwestern University, reflecting on his journey to restorative justice while working as a juvenile defense attorney.

Moran Center is Awarded Transformative ARPA Funds

In 2022, the Moran Center was awarded more than $600,000 by the Justice Advisory Council to sustain the Roger Pascal Restorative Justice Initiative for three years (2022-2025) through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

Moran Center joins Veteran Record Relief network

As a member of the Illinois Armed Forces Legal Aid Network (IL-AFLAN), the Moran Center provides criminal record remediation services to Illinois veterans and annually attends the Veterans Treatment Court Graduation at the Skokie Courthouse to support their next steps.

The Moran Center trains Evanston’s new Civilian Responders

Evanston launched C.A.R.E in 2024 with the goal of redesigning public safety and fostering a connected community. The Moran Center trained the team in trauma-informed care practices.
