John E. Cox, a 19 year-old Black man in Evanston, was arrested related to the death of his two-year-old son on October 24, 1970. In his local jail cell, Cox attempted suicide. Cox was then transported to three different hospitals, while in a coma, not receiving care. Without receiving medical attention, John succumbed to his injuries and died in police custody.
