100-0987 (HB4594) also known as the Criminal and Traffic Assessment Act, reforms the system of court costs, fines, and fees in Illinois. The Act reduces the hardship of court costs on low-income individuals and reduces the burden on the court system of collecting these fees by making the system more effective and efficient. The Act also allows individuals to obtain full or partial waivers of criminal fines and fees, thus ensuring that people will not remain in the court system due to poverty or a lack of money. Thanks to the Chicago Bar Foundation for your leadership in championing this important reform to Illinois’ criminal justice system!
