100-0810 (SB3466) Passed!

100-0810 (SB3466) ensures that caregivers are given notice and assistance to address the causes of their child’s truancy rather than automatically penalizing the caregiver with a fine; aligns the municipal process with the state-level process by requiring caregivers receive notice and the opportunity to meet with school personnel before allowing the school to refer caregivers for municipal fines; eliminates the ability to refer students to municipalities for truancy fines; acknowledges the additional challenges facing students with disabilities and homeless students by ensuring these truancy meetings involve personnel with knowledge of their specific needs; prioritizes providing support to families instead of punishment to return students to the classroom.
